Losheim Gap, 21km E of St Vith, Belgium: [Best Played as Allied] The 14th Cavalry Group had been in the line for only four days. They had not yet established effective defensive coordination with their neighboring 106th Infantry Division. As a cavalry unit, the 14th was ill suited and poorly equipped for a fixed defensive mission yet they were fated to be struck by two German divisions on the morning of Null Tag - the first day of the "Wacht Am Rhein" offensive. If the 3rd Parachute Division and the 18th Volksgrenadier Division could achieve a quick breakthrough, the panzers would pour through into the undefended American rear. Disaster would surely follow. Only the courage, skill and tenacity of the outnumbered defenders could allow them to delay long enough for reinforcements to stem the rushing German tide.
US forces need a good Armored regiment with attached units as reinforcements to have any chance of balance. And, a serious look at the victory levels.
