Salerno - American Landings 2012 - The Matrix Games version of West Front

Operation Avalanche 2012 version - dawn attack - good for Extreme Assault rule - The American 36th (Texas) Infantry Division landed at 0330 hours on the beaches in front of Paestum, almost 20 miles south of Salerno. Hoping to achieve surprise, the Americans chose to go in quietly without a preliminary bombing. Meanwhile the British landings had launched with a booming naval bombardment ten miles to the north. Although the Italian armistice of the previous day had stripped Field Marshall Kesselring of the much needed coastal divisions, he still had the crack, fully equipped 16th Panzer Division dug in and waiting. The 36th was in for a long day and success would come at a high price.
