Rochefort, 21km ESE of Dinant, Belgium: [Best played as Axis] As people all around the world began their Christmas celebrations, the deadly race for position continued along the Bulge offensive's northern flank. The veteran but exhausted Panzer Lehr Division desperately searched for a clear route across the Meuse River. The green midwesterners of the American 84th Infantry Division scrambled to plug the gaps and tried to put an end to German forward progress. Recon troops from Bayerlein's Panzer Lehr had reported Rochefort to be empty, but during the day a task force of the 84th Division's 335th Regiment had occupied the town. At midnight, Bayerlein launched his forces northward with the words, "Also los, Augen zu, und hinein!" ("OK, let's go! Shut your eyes and go in!") Both sides could feel the Germans' growing desperation, but desperate enemies are often the most dangerous.

Night scenario. Axis need to reach the objectives before the bridges are blown.
Resolve then, that on this very ground, with small flags waving and tinny blasts on tiny trumpets, we shall meet the enemy, and not only may he be ours, he may be us. --Walt Kelly
