**The Old Guys Got it Today - The Matrix Games version of West Front

[Basse Bodeux, Ardennes]:[H2H or as Allied]:[HIS]:[BB] This scenario depicts the drive of the 82nd Airborne Division towards the Salm river on January 3, 1945. It was one of the bloodiest battles of World War II. Lined abreast were 3 airborne regiments. In the first stage of the offensive, the 325th Glider regiment on the eastern flank was ordered to capture the heights of Hé de Hierlot. These were defended by GR 164, commanded by one of Germany's most decorated officers, Oberstleutnant Arthur Jüttner. To the left of the 325th was the 505th PIR, which was tasked to capture Noirfontaine/ Reharmont and Fosse. These towns were defended by GR 190. The attached 517th PIR, with the independent 551st Parachute Infantry Battalion was supposed to capture Trois Points, the heights of Mont Fosse, and the villages of St. Jaques and Bergeval. These towns were mostly defended by GR183. Designer Notes: 1)The Allied attack from the north bank of the Ambleve did not start until the second week of January 1945. Therefore, no units of the 30th ID are present. However a Battalion, (fixed,) of the 18th VGD, blocked the junction of the Salm and Ambleve rivers to deny Allied use of N68. 2) The scenario title comes from a chapter of Phil Nordyke's book: "All American, All the Way." The book describes these events and refers to the large number of casualties in this battle among "the old guys" who fought and survived in the Sicily, Normandy and Market Garden campaigns.
