[Version 1.0, 03-07-2005, sequel to "Where There's Trouble"]
After the failure of the US 7th Armored division to take Overloon
in an attempt to drive the Germans from the westbank of the Maas,
this section of the front was again taken over by British forces.
A new attack on Overloon was planned, this time as part of a
larger operation called "Constellation". Operation Constellation
was designed to drive the Germans from the entire Peel front
and was to involve several divisions. This scenario covers the
first phase of that operation namely operation Castor. Goal of
Castor was to capture Overloon and the woods south of the village
by the 8d Infantry Brigade in conjunction with the Churchills
of the Coldstream Guards of the 6th Independent Tank Brigade.
Meanwhile, heavy rains had turned the terrain into mud and the
small brooks into wide rivers. The German force had also seen
some changes after the 7th Armored had left the scene. Oberst
Walther's force was taken into reserve again. Now Kampfgruppe
Gotzsch was ordered to defend the area. His forces however were
largely the same units that were already in the area, namely
Panzer Brigade 107 commanded by Oberst Von Maltzahn and FJR 21
commanded by Oberst Lövted-Hardegg. [Note: for historical accuracy,
units on the eastflank are fixed for both sides AND this scn
is best played with the optional rule Armor Facing OFF]
trying to stop a British attack spearheaded by numerous Churchills and Sherman Minesweepers....lots of room to manuever and woods to hide in.....
