Battleground Italy 43-45 - War in the West

Churchill called it the "soft underbelly of Europe" but for the tens of thousands of Allied troops that would slug their way across its many rivers and endless mountains for the next two years Italy was anything but soft. The sunny slopes of Sicily in July would soon give way to a dreary campaign of mud and blood that brought rare glory and frequent disappointment. Final victory would be anticlimactic coming as the Reich itself disintegrated into the ashes of history, but for the men who fought there and survived Italy would be forever seared into their memory.
