D-Day: 1944-45 Campaign - War in the West

For months an invasion host of enormous proportions has been gathering in the British Isles. Hundreds of transport planes and thousands of ships stand ready to carry quarter of a million men across the channel in what will be the greatest amphibious invasion in history. The ultimate objective is to smash the German armies in France and Belgium and thrust across the Rhine to destroy the Nazi war machine once and for all. Officially the operation is called Overlord but it would forever be known simply as D-DAY.
