Almonacid 11th August 1809 - With the victorious British forced to retreat after Talavera, the French decided to deal with Venegas' Spanish army so that Madrid would be secure. Underestimating the French strength at 14,000 rather than 21,000, Venegas hoped for an easy victory, so made preparations for attacking the enemy. However, the impetuous French general Sebastiani decided to attack first, without waiting for reinforcements under King Joseph.

Having played twice as both sides I'd say the scenario slightly favours the Spanish side.

The French force in the south is almost redundant and can only reach their objective hex if they meet no opposition or delay.

This is a wild scenario with lots of room and time to move around and some big battalions and lots of heavy cavalry that pack a punch.

The French have better quality forces, but they arrive at three different locations. Getting your forces unified is very important (I didn't) and my opponent outflanked and crushed my Poles and Germans. The loss of supplies counts against you, so keep them protected. Great Scenario to play, it was a blast and a real challenge.

Time is of the essence for the French side
