Tamames 18 October 1809 - After a morning's march from Matilla, the French VIe Corps under Marchand (due to Ney's absence) encountered Del Parque's Spanish army at Tamames, an unwalled village that was strategically important as the crossroads between Ciudad Rodrigo and Salamanca and between C. Rodrigo and Bejar. Although the Spanish occupied a strong defensive position and had numerical superiority, the French were superior quality and Marchand perceived that the Spanish left flank was a weak spot. But Marchand made the mistake of splitting his forces instead of launching an attack in strength against the enemy left flank.

Much depends on how many poor Spanish units rout. They have more men and can afford to melee the French and wear them down.
The only way the Spanish missed out on a major victory was due to a couple of mistakes. An attack by the French seems easily rebuffed; reaching the exit hex (and winning points) is well nigh impossible. The best tactic is to sit out and hold for a draw.
