19 May 1813 - Historical - Intended to be played Head to Head - As various French forces advanced towards the link up with Napoleon's forces near Bautzen, the 15th Division (Northern Italian forces) under GD Peyri arrived at Königswartha to take up position on Lauriston's right flank. Little thought was given to posting adequate security measures and thus at about 1PM the forces of Barclay's 3rd Army of the West arrived near the town. Barclay had asked permission to make a spoiling attack on the advancing French forces and had been given additional forces which were to play a part in the action known as "The Eichberg." His inherent forces formed the left flank while those of Yorck and Raevski formed the right flank. As Barclay arrived before Königswartha, he noted to his advanced guard commander, General-Lieutenant Tschaplitz, that Peyri's forces were riping for the picking. The assault was ordered immediately and the Advanced Guard began the attack. Following them up in the assault were the forces under Langeron. Peyri's 8,000 men were no match for the 13,000 Russians and his division was put to flight after a hard fight in the town. By 5PM the action was over. Ney's III Corps was coming up and thus Barclay fell back on the town. His spoiling attack had succeeded. Peyri's division lost over 3000 men in the engagement. Once again the lack of cavalry had allowed the Allies to overwhelm an isolated French force.
