26 May 1813 - Historical - Intended to be played Head to Head - After the Battle of Bautzen the French pushed ahead to the east. Because of the lack of food the ill-disciplined French soldiers would break away from the column and forage for food. Their lack of cavalry support often left them with no idea as to what lay ahead or to the flanks. Such was the case as they marched from Hainau to Michaelsdorf and beyond. The infantrymen were scattering out to gather in food while the 3rd Light Cavalry Division to the rear thought that the day's march was over and started to forage for their mounts. The Prussians under v.Zeithen launched a massive cavalry charge utilitzing twenty-two squadrons of some of their very best cavalry. Planned and executed by Oberst von Dolffs, the signal to attack was the burning of the local windmill and as it burst into flames the Prussian cavalry stormed off of the hill and into the French ranks. Surprise was total, the small contingent of cavalry evaporating as the enemy cavalry smashed into their countrymen. The infantry fled for the village with the cavalry on their heels. Marching up to meet the guns were elements of the 17th and 18th Divisions of Lauriston's V Corps and their appearance ended the fight. Best played Head to Head.
