24 June 1808 - Historical - Intended for Head to Head play or Solo as the French player vs. the AI (see RSW-Solo.pdf for Solo play victory levels) - The Swedish-Finnish forces had advanced south towards Vaasa during May. With the Spring thaw the roads turned into a quagmire making movement very difficult. It would not be until early June that any true offensive movement could begin. The Russian high command worried about the position of the 5th Division so they had them fall back to the south towards Vaasa. Yankovich was near Nykarleby on the morning of the 24th of June when several columns approached his position. The Swedish plan was for the various columns of the 2nd and 3rd Brigades to combine for a coordinated assault but due to bad roads and a lack of communication not all of the flanking columns were able to arrive on time. Yankovich fought a tense rearguard action with the main columns arriving from the north, fell back to the western side of the river, burnt the bridge and retreated further south to Vaasa. The Swedish plan had failed to encircle the Russians. Special Rules: the Russians may not begin exiting the map until Turn 30.
