20 April 1809 - Charles gets news that an unknown French force in somewhere on his right flank. He realizes that if he can destroy this force that he will succeed in cutting the Allied army in two parts. He leaves the V Corps at Abensberg to occupy Napoleon and presses on to Ratisbon with all troops at hand. The III Corps, I and II Reserve Corps are brought up from the left flank while the IV Corps is sent to intercept Davout. With victory in sight the Austrians have every reason to believe that they can win the war with a single stroke!
