16 February 1807 - Historical - Intended to be played Head to Head - Following the Battle of Eylau, the V Corps under the command of GD Savary, had been tasked with watching the army's right flank and guarding Warsaw. Savary was ordered to take Ostroleka on the Narew River. Moving north he found part of Essen's forces near the town. Detailing one of his divisions to take and hold the town he moved north to attack a small advance guard force of the 9th Division. While pursuing them to the north, Savary heard the sound of cannon fire coming from Ostroleka. The town was under attack. Essen had struck while the majority of the V Corps was marching to the north. He had relied upon the 6th Division for support but at the last minute they had abandoned their position on the north bank and moved north. Essen would have to take Ostroleka on his own. The fight for the town was brutal with no quarter given by the French. When Essen saw the V Corps forces arriving he realized that the battle was over and retreated to the heights to the east until nightfall could cover his withdraw. Savary's forces arrived to find the Russians falling back. The battle was over but not before the Russians had suffered heavy casualties. Note: this scenario does not include the attack by Gazan on the Russian forces north of the Narew River.
