14 June 1807 - Historical - Intended to be played Head to Head - GD Grouchy led the cavalry at the Battle of Friedland in Murat's absence. Initially he had just his division and a couple of cavalry brigades to command but Nansouty showed up. However, Nansouty's command ran afoul of Cossacks when they got lax after having occupied Heinrichsdorf during the morning of the battle. Grouchy gave Nansouty a rebuke which stung dearly as the latter considered himself the best cavalryman in the army. Together both generals had their work cut out for them as the Russians outnumbered the French. Only due to poor command and coordination of the Russian forces did the French prevail. Can you as the French do likewise? As the Russians can you defeat the vaunted French heavy cavalry and dragoon divisions? Note: while there was supposedly infantry involved this was mainly a cavalry vs. cavalry battle which does not lend itself well to a fight for the village. Thus the village is not as important to possess as the surrounding high ground. The infantry were not relevant to the situation thus are not included. Bottom line: Bennigsen was paranoid about his troops being cut off and if the exit to the village was taken they were to fall back on the main position to the north of Friedland. Note: Note: Losses have been deducted from and fatigue points added to the units reflecting the effects of combat over the course of the battle.
