9 June 1807 - Historical - Intended to be played Head to Head - Research Credits: Michael Hopper - With the advance of the French army following the unsuccessful bid of Bennigsen's Russian army to defeat Ney's VI Corps near Guttstadt, the Allies were now on the retreat. Murat arrived to assume command of the advance guard composed of one infantry division (Marchand's of VI Corps) and nineteen cavalry regiments. The Russian rearguard, composed of four regiments of Jagers under Baggovut and twelve cavalry regiments. The contest started at 1pm when the advance guard of the French army bumped into the Russians near Ankendorf. Designer Notes: The Russian Garde infantry played little part in the battle and rather than deploy it they were left off of the map. They retreated to Guttstadt very soon after the action began. Designers are welcome to add them in and adjust the victory conditions if they like. The artillery at Guttstadt is fixed and never releases to reflect their orders to defend the crossing site. The forward deployment of the objectives reflect the need for Allied player to try and delay the French as long as possible so that the rest of the Left Wing forces can evacuate through Guttstadt. Players Notes: The French will be wise to await the arrival of all of the cavalry before they begin their attack. As there are no fixed units in the game the entire Russian cavalry force is available for the Allied player to use as the battle begins.
