(What If: 23 Turns) What if Hood had changed his plan and instead kept his army concentrated around Columbia. Schofield, fearing that Confederate infantry had moved north, orders Wagner's Division to Spring Hill and moves Kimball's Division back to where the Columbia & Franklin Pike crosses Rutherford's Creek. When Forrest reports that a Federal Column can be seen marching north along the Columbia & Franklin Pike, Hood makes a bold decision to force a crossing over the Duck River and attack the Union Forces remaining north of Columbia.

My first game in Franklin, and I doubted I could get better than a draw against my excellent opponent fighting a withdrawal as the Union, so I chose to hold my ground to gain some playing experience. I got trounced, but enjoyed the game. My Union troops routed almost every turn but I managed to hold my ground, while suffering aa minor defeat. I don't recommend that strategy here but it was a good battle despite the result for the Union.
Totally a head-to-head slug-fest where the Union hopes to kill enough Rebs while preventing the en mass route of the Union forces.
Well-designed scenario with plenty of action for both sides.
The south can be in a position to secure a Minor Victory early and can sit back and take the easy way out, or can advance to try and get the Major Victory, but once you go "over the top" you're committed and your score will rapidly plummet to Draw and Loss levels, so you'll have to keep going regardless of cost if you want that Victory back in the Southern Column.
The scenario's design flaw is that the CSA player can secure a Minor Win easily by chasing the pickets in front of Widows Hill off and then sitting back and awaiting a Union counter attack. The Union player will get shredded crossing the valley with those C class units against all those A and B class units, so it's only going to hand a Major Win to the Southern forces. The scoring levels should be tweaked so that a Draw is maintained when Hood secures Widow's Hill and then both sides would be motivated to consider further offensive operations.
