19 October 1813 - Historical - Intended to be played Head to Head - The final day of the battle was mainly a rearguard action gone astray. The French army should have been able to transit the city and destroy the bridge behind them but instead the bridge was prematurely blown trapping thousands of soldiers. The Allies attacked from the north, east and south and were able to capture the main suburb gates by mid to late morning. During the afternoon the city itself was captured. Many soldiers were able to swim the Elster but others were lost in the attempt. The composition of the French defense was a patchwork force composed of many divisions intermingled. No doubt the fact that many of their comrades were making good their escape hastened the panic towards the bridges. Portions of four corps were captured and Napoleon was to fight his campaign of 1814 with greatly reduced forces as a result. Note: the French forces have been assigned fatigue points to reflect their unwillingness to hold their positions or go on the offensive for the most part.
