16 October 1813 - Historical - Intended to be played Head to Head - The assault on Lindenau was entrusted to the Austrian 3rd Corps reinforced by the 1st Light Division and two streifkorps. The goal was to cut off Napoleon's lines of communications and keep his army trapped on the right bank of the Elster. The Austrians were divided into three columns. A smaller force of troops headed from Markranstädt to Rückmarsdorf and the swung around to assault the French right flank. The main force headed straight down the road from Markranstädt directly on Lindenau while a third column consisting mainly of the 1st Light Division attacked the French left. The goal of the center column was to attract the attention of the French so that the flanking columns could encircle the French forces. Defending Lindenau was Margaron's small division which was the Leipzig garrison. He built earthworks and breastworks to shield guns on the outskirts of the town and prepared his men for the action to come as best as he could. The Allies were supposed to await the advance of Blücher to the north and advance in line with his attack on the French near Möckern. Unfortunately, the Army of Silesia was not in place by early morning so at 8am-9am the Austrians began the attack. A quick look over the terrain to the north lead
