27 August 1813 - Historical - Intended to be played Head to Head - Important: Uses 15 Minute Turns - Prior to the Battle of Gross Beeren, GD Girard's division departed Magdeburg on the 21st with the intention of linking up with Oudinot. After pressing on through some outposts of the right flank of the Army of the North (Bernadotte) he encountered GM Hirschfeld's Prussian force of several brigades near Belzig. The French made camp near Lübnitz with no thoughts to sending out a cavalry screen to the north. Meanwhile, Hirschfeld ordered his men to silently advance through some woods in order to take the French by surprise. They emerged from the woods to the northwest of Lübnitz to find the French unprepared. Advancing towards Lübnitz the fighting was bitter with the first assaults carrying the town and sending the French back on Hagelberg to the south. The French set up some artillery and attempted to hold the new ground. Meanwhile, the Prussians made a flanking move to the southeast looping around the French right flank. The main assault on Hagelberg was eventually successful. About 6000 French were lost along with about 5 guns. Another detachment of Frenchmen and their allies had been reduced to a reinforced brigade.
