28 September 1813 - Historical - Intended to be played Head to Head - Important: Uses 15 Minute Turns - Lefebvre Desnoettes had been tasked with hunting down Allied cavalry raiders operating in the French rear and along with a guard cavalry division and some infantry was in Altenburg south of Leipzig on the morning of the 28th when the Allied Streifkorps began to approach the city from the south and southeast. Having captured an Allied dispatch he knew roughly what he was facing and feeling that he had inadequate forces he fell back on a position to the northwest. Two couriers were sent out to French forces operating to the west requesting assistance. The Allied advance came in the form of three columns. The initial attack by Platov's force was sharp and resulted in the French position being flanked. The remainder of the streifkorps (Thielmann and Mensdorf) arrived on the French right and further pressured them. The French fell back to the northwest and during the day skirmished with the Allies who pressed them back to Zeitz. Although most account state the the French had the superior numbers actually their total force was not united and thus the Baden and French infantry involved in the engagement suffered. Once the remainder of the French cavalry reached Zeitz the Allies broke off their attack with only a minor force pursuing after the French. Lefebvre retired on Weissenfels to reoganize. The Allies fell back on Altenburg. The French would get a certain degree of revenge a few days later when part of a Streifkorps was captured near Altenburg after their comrades had retired from the area.
