037. The Battle of Caldiero - WDS Campaign Marengo

12 November 1796 - Historical - Intended to be played Head to Head - Alvinczy's advance guard under Hohenzollern had found Napoleon's army near Caldiero east of Verona at the village of Vega. After a sharp skirmish the French drove them back across the river. Napoleon held off attacking until the next day. The morning was anything but bright with horrific rain and hail and a blinding wind making the action in the morning difficult at best. The Austrians were able to hold of the French mainly due to the weather. The action starts with the afternoon assault on the Austrian position. Reinforcements for the Austrians are arriving as the action begins. Note: this version of the action is intended to skip what probably would be a wipe out of the Austrian advance guard and will make for a much more interesting situation. The players need to pay close attention to the weather values as seen in the Parameter Data. Movement will be difficult at best and musket fire will be reduced to next to nothing.
