The assault at Cold Harbor, on June 3, 1864, was the only assault that U S Grant ever regretted making. He had a penchant for attacking early in the morning, as he did at the Wilderness and Spotsylvania. In this early version, much of the Union Artillery, and some of the Confederate, is not deployed. In this hour before dawn this is an opportunity for the contestants to place it as they wish before the sun comes up. Reference: Gordon C. Rhea "Cold Harbor" and Ernest B.
