After being defeated at Orange Courthouse, Lee retreated to Mine Run and dug in along the east bank. Longstreets Corps detoured toward Gordonsville in case Grant decided to take that route, but he is fast approaching the field from the southwest. Based largely on its location and availability for the maneuver, Grant sent Burnside's Ninth Corps by way of Germanna Ford to turn the Confederate right flank. Burn is out on a limb. He'd better have a very good day!
