By Mid-August 1864, the scorching heat of summer had been replaced by a torrential down pour of rain. But despite these weather extremes, the battle of Petersburg continued and the fate of the Confederacy hung in the balance. Grant was determined to strangle Petersburg and Richmond by cutting off their supplies, and in particular, their supplies by rail. To speed this plan, he ordered Meade to send Warren’s V Corps west to destroy as much as the Weldon Railroad as possible. Facing him was Heth’s Division and Dearing Cavalry. This scenario challenges the Union to engage Heth, push back his counterattacking force and destroy the railroad. NOTE: Griffin's Division is fixed throughout, due to their task of destroying the railroad.
