(W stands for Weather data is used) As the struggle for Petersburg continued, so did Grant's desire to destroy as much of the Weldon Railroad as possible. In this new phase of that task, Grant via Meade, ordered Hancock and his II Corps, a few miles further south of the Globe Tavern to Reams Station. Here, Hancock, along with Gregg's cavalry, were to continue the railroad destruction. To prevent this continuous threat to keeping the Petersburg supply lines open, General Lee sent A.P. Hill's Corps, along with Wade Hampton's cavalry to Reams Station and put a stop to this threat. On the 25th of August, the two forces would collide as the fate of the Weldon Railroad hung in the balance.
