Longstreet arrives into Farmville, with the bulk of his Corps, at about 9am was bitter sweet. He had hoped to rest and feed his tired soldiers. But as the Union Army of the James and the VI Corps were not far distant, he almost immediately ordered the crossing to the northside of the Appomattox River and the burning of both the wagon and railroad bridges. Once on the other side, Longstreet ordered the fortifying of Cumberland Heights. From there, he could see into Farmville and await the Union army. For this scenario, Longstreet will not have to wait long. Though crossing the river will be a difficult challenge, the Union commander has well positioned a large number of artillery pieces ready to assist with the river crossing. NOTES: For this scenario, the bridges will not have been burnt, as was the historical situation. Also, there are two exit hexes for Union troops. To gain victory points, occupy the exit hexes at (6.0) and/or (19,0) and use the "Remove from Map" feature, under the Command Window, or more simply, hit Crtl+X
