(W stands for Weather data is used) Appomattox Court House, the final battle of the American Civil War, has finally come. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia is almost entirely spent. Near to starvation, and exhaustion, these few remnants of what was once perhaps the finest army in all the world of the 1860's, must either win a miraculous victory, or finally succumb to defeat and final surrender. Lee has entrusted this final battle to the tactical command of John Gordon and his Confederate 2nd Corps. Opposing Gordon was Grant's master of cavalry, Phil Sheridan, and Charles Griffin, commanding the Army of the Potomac's 5th Corps. At this time, Lee and Gordon believed that only a screen of cavalry was keeping him pinned near the small town of Appomattox Court House. If he could break through before the Union infantry arrived, the Confederate army may yet escape destruction. In this scenario, the Confederates can either attempt to breakout using the exit hexes located at (0,52) and (16,56), or defend their position. If defending their position successfully, this will assume that later in the day, they escaped back north of the Appomattox River, destroyed the bridge, and joined with Longstreet's rearguard at New Hope Church and moved west to continue their retreat.
