Thinking that he had outdistanced himself from the pursuing Union cavalry, Confederate artillery commander Lindsay Walker, pulled his wagon train and 100 guns of artillery into Appomattox Station. He was accompanied only by a single brigade of cavalry commanded by Brig. Gen. Martin Gary. Shortly after 4pm, an alarm was raised that signaled the oncoming of Union cavalry. This Union cavalry force consisted of three brigades commanded by Maj. Gen. George Custer. As the Confederate, you must defend your position and the massed artillery needed so desperately by General Lee and the Army of Northern Virginia. Note: The Union was moving too fast to bring additional supplies. Also, a large portion the Confederate artillery has been parked in the rear, uncrewed and fixed. This will simulate that Walker used many of the artillerist as infantry to help defend his position. Note: Best played as Union against CSA A/I.
