(Historical) Though Sheridan commanded a Union army of 50,000 men, Confederate General Early sought out opportunities to attack at points where he could attack with equal or superior numbers. On this occasion, he ordered Maj. Gen. Joseph Kershaw to attack two Union divisions camped at Berryville. The attacked commenced at 5pm and ended with darkness.
