8 May 1809(H) - The initial flank move by the Allied right wing went smoothly. Grouchy's cavalry were accross with no loss. Dessaix's men had held off any attempts to take their bridgehead. With the Austrian cavalry in ruins after a disasterous fight with Grouchy's troopers John realized that he was in deep trouble. Eugene has crossed over 30,000 men and prepares to attack the Austrian position behind the dike despite the fact that the Piave has flooded out the fords and no reinforcements can be expected!
