6 July 1809 (H) - The village of Aderklaa formed a pivotal position for either side to hold. Bernadotte's IX Corps had taken the village on the night of the 5th but that Marshall had decided to retreat from the position, possibly to redress his lines with Massena's IV Corps and avoid a hanging left flank. Thus at 3am when Belgarde's I Korps advanced they found only wounded Saxons in the village. Upon hearing of the situation, Napoleon ordered an immeditate assault on the position and Massena put St. Cyr's division along with the remants of the Saxons into an attack on the position. Historically the Austrians came out on top only after committing their Grenadier force to retake the village. The French will be hard pressed to hold the village but will have support in the form of artillery and two brigades of cavalry from LaSalle's division as well as the corps cavalry of IV and IX Corps. This scenario uses 10 minute turns in order to slow down the action so that the defender can make some response to enemy mov ements. This version of the scenario uses a smaller scale map. The infantry units are companies, for cavalry they are squadrons and the artillery batteries are divided into sections. The normal command and movement amounts were doubled from that of the 10 turn PDT file. Cavalry may breakdown into two platoons. Infantry that can skirmish can breakdown into 3 units in order to have a cadre for the company when they wish to reform. Some units like the Archduke Karl Legion have rifle companies.
