Napoleon invades through Charleroi on June 15-19, 1815 - Napoleon has returned from Elba. Arriving at the southern coast of France he has successfully garnered supporters as he marched to Paris. The Emperor's return was met with less enthusiasm in the capitals of Europe. All Europe has declared him an outlaw and plans were drawn for an invasion of France. Troops have been promised from across the continent. In June an army composed of British, Netherlanders, and numerous German states has assembled in Belgium. Command of this Anglo-Allied army has been given to Wellington. A Prussian army under the command of Feld Marshal Blucher has joined Wellington. The two armies are awaiting the arrival of Russian and Austrian troops before beginning their assault on France. Already outnumbered Napoleon has decided not to wait. He has formed the Armee du Nord and has decided to strike before he is overwhelmed. Napoleon has determined that his one best choice is to strike Blucher and Wellington in Belgium. His hope is to destroy these two armies and take Prussia and Britain out of the war. In doing so he believes that capturing Brussels will bring the Belgians back into the French fold. If successful he expects that the remaining two powers, Russia and Austria will no longer have the stomach for war. It is June 15 and Napoleon's gamble is set to begin.

As long as linear tactics are used and the French can get in close and avoid automatic artillery fire it is doable for a concentrated French army.

The French arrive fairly concentrated. The allies are scattered and reinforcements arrive later. The French have the opportunity to take the objective hexes fairly quickly.

The French cross the river then run riot over the allies, exiting at the Exit hexes. Thus it's normally a French romp.

We used the optional rules in this scenario which gave the French a serious advantage. Moving in force, I was able manhandle allied forces that disrupted at the sight of the French. Typically I have to work hard for a draw, this one was pretty lopsided.
Way too many supply wagons! My final arrivals I abandoned behind blow bridges.

Against a good to better Allied player, not really a whole lot the French can do if the Allied player can carefully delay the French (use those chateaus!) and blow up three or four of the bridges nearest Charleroi; while speeding Allied forces ASAP to the front.

One of my favourites.

The French chose to march on Brussels by concentrating to the west. The pockets of Allied resistance were no match for the weight of the entire French army.
