Crusade: 1st Crusade
Scenario Briefing: Following the successful siege and capture of Nicaea, the army of the crusaders, numbering perhaps 60,000, continued their trek through Anatolia with the larger city of Antioch on their target list.
On their way, a divided crusader force neared the abandoned Byzantine fortress of Dorylaeum on July 1st 1097. This vanguard was led by Bohemond of Taranto, with the main army several hours march behind. Seeing an opportunity to strike, the Turkish Seljuk leader, Kilij Arslan, planned a surprise attack to destroy these invaders.
The Turkish plan was to surround the crusaders, shower them with arrows, and annihilate the entire force. You can now make that determination. Will help arrive in time? The forces consisted of approximately 10,000 crusaders (mostly infantry) against more than 7,000 Turkish Seljuk mounted horse archers.
This scenario simulates the early morning march armies that will soon clash together, resulting in the most desperate hours of the battle for the crusaders. Before the main force's arrival. They were 5 kilometers to the rear of the vanguard.
Recommended Rules: [Default]
Intended to be played as the Crusader Alliance against the Islamic Alliance A/I forces of the Sultan of Rum but can be played from either side or Head-to-Head.
