Date: December 12th, 1099 - Size: Small - Location: The walled city of Arsuf
Crusade: Period between 1st and 2nd Crusade
Scenario Briefing: With the conclusion of their vow to return Jerusalem to being a Christian city, many of the Crusaders were anxious to return home. However, some decided to stay in the east as permanent residents. Godfrey of Bouillon was chosen to lead them and their new Kingdom of Jerusalem. Godfrey preferred to not take a formal crown, rather he chose to be called the Advocatus Sancti Sepulchri, or Advocate of the Holy Sepulcher. Among the cities still controlled by Muslim rule, Arsuf had agreed to paying a tribute to Godfrey. When this agreement was broken, Godfrey assembled what force he could from those that had chosen to stay and marched on Arsuf. They would either pay, or their city would come under siege. Arsuf chose the latter.
This scenario depicts that siege with a consolidated timeline. Historically, the siege of Arsuf lasted from October to mid-December 1099. Now you have the chance to conquer the city in a day. You have just over 1,000 men with siege engines to take Arsuf. Defending this city, is a number that averages the historical sources to just over 2,000. Now approach with caution and prepare for battle. A great prize awaits you if you can take the city. Victory can only be achieved by taking the main objective in the center of the city.
Remember, only units that have a strength of 75 or less may use a siege tower to reach a wall hex.
Recommended Rules: [Default]
This scenario should only be played as the Crusader Alliance against the Fatimid Caliphate forces Islamic Alliance A/I.
