Crusade: The Crusade of 1101

Scenario Briefing: With the defeat of the Seljuks in the 1st Crusade, those that came later were feeling over confident. It was the belief of the Crusaders that the Seljuks were nothing more than paper tigers and that they could easily be defeated again and again. However, this time there would be one very important missing element that allowed the 1st Crusade to succeed. That being the unification of arms to defeat a common enemy. In 1101, the newly arrived Crusaders failed to achieve this, and their Seljuk opponents succeeded in unifying long enough to come together and fight a common foe.

In this scenario, the Count of Nevers led a contingent of Frankish crusaders to Constantinople. From there they would enter the realm of the Sultan of Rum, Kilij Arslan. With his temporary ally, Malik Ghazi of Danishmend lands, the two would harass the advancing Crusader army, being fresh from their victory at Mersivan, from Konya to Heraclea. It was at Heraclea that the Seljuks would spring their trap and ambush the tired Crusaders. As the leader of the Crusaders, you have one task, avoid total destruction. You can do this by using the exit hexes to the west. As the leader of the Seljuks, your task is to totally eliminate each and every Crusader on this field of battle. Cut off the Crusader retreat and rain arrows upon their heads. To please Kilij Arslan and Malik Ghazi, each Crusader's head must be penetrated by no less than two arrows.

Tip: As the Crusader, use your spearmen in "Block" formation. They can melee with Seljuk cavalry and have a 360 degree ZOC.

Recommended Rules: [Default]

Intended to be played as the Crusader Alliance vs the Islamic Alliance A/I but can be played from either side. Playing as the Crusader will have the greater challenge. Also Head-to-Head can be played, but again, the greater challenge will be to play the Crusader Alliance side.
