0255 24 October 1944. As part of the Japanese plan Sho-Go 1, Admiral Nishimura and his heavy Southern Force planed to slip through the Surigao Strait before fighting their way into the American invasion fleet. Admiral Kinkaid planned a massive ambush of this force. Pickets of PT boats and a skirmish line of destroyers acted as the eyes and ears for the heavy battleline of American Battleship Divisions 1 & 2. Eluding some of the light craft and shrugging off others, the Japanese battleships would plow on ahead, only to feel the full brunt of the American ships who would 'cross their T'.
