0230 2 November 1943. Vice Admiral Omori's mission was to land a counter invasion to the US Marine force at Empress Augusta Bay on Bougainville. Delays derailed those plans, but Omori decided to proceed with is secondary objective of disrupting the landings and destroying the transports.
