1700 08 December 8, 1914. Von Spee's squadron approached the Falkland Islands planning to bombard the facilities before steaming for home. Unbeknownst to him, Vice Admiral Sturdee had received reinforcements in the form of two battlecruisers. Sturdee was in the midst of fueling before heading to the coast of Chile the next day in search of von Spee. This hypothetical variant presumes that von Spee sailed wide of the islands to make an unobserved approach it the late afternoon.
