December 23, 1941 [Hypothetical] After the initial successful defense of Wake Island on December 11, Admiral Kimmel decided to send reinforcements to Wake Island. After various delays, Task Force 14 was detailed to escort the seaplane carrier Tangier to Wake with those reinforcements. However, before the group was able to get there, the Japanese made another attempt, including Carrier Division Two. Acting CINCPAC Pye recalled TF-14. Many have argued that the Saratoga should have been sent in to confront the Japanese. NOTE: The Saratoga Air Group also contains a Marine Fighter group which it was ferrying to Wake as part of the reinforcements. The two forces are placed within deployment boxes, with the IJN forces somewhere to the west of the US forces.
