On July 13, 1812 Marshal Davout in command of two divisions plus cavalry saw it within his capabilities to destroy Bagration's 2nd Army of the West. To this end Davout enacted a secret order from Napoleon given only to him to seize command of the Southern Wing of the French Army from Prince Jerome Bonaparte. This action did not come to pass because Jerome did not know of these orders and threw a temper tantrum instead of graciously turning command over to Davout, as he should have. This "What if" scenario attempts to recreate what might have happened had Jerome been more reasonable and compliant with his brother's orders and turned command of his forces over to Davout.
