Single Battle - Saltanovka, alternative (108 turns, Medium) On or about the 15th of July, 1812 Marshal Davout under orders from Napoleon (secret) attempted to take control of Prince Jerome's Army Group, trying to close a trap on Prince Bagration's 2nd Army of the West in the vicinity of Borisov. This plan went astray because Jerome threw a temper tantrum because he had not been informed about this seizure of command from his brother Napoleon. The time lost by the confusion caused by Jerome's actions caused Bagration to escape. What if Jerome had not refuted the orders that Davout had received? The battle will now take place on the 23-24 July in the area around Saltanovka. This time Davout with two divisions and supported by elements of the 3rd Cavalry Corps must delay Bagration long enough for French reinforcements to arrive. If Davout is successful Bagration will be surrounded and probably destroyed. Bagration on the other must try to break Davout's lines and escape the trap. The Russian advantage of numbers will only be in effect for the first day as French reinforcements steadily flow in.
