114. The Battle of Ostrach - WDS Republican Bayonets on the Rhine

21 March 1799 - Historical - Intended to be played Head to Head - This is the historical battle of Ostrach where Charles defeated Jourdan's heavily outnumbered forces in the first battle of the 1799 Rhine Campaign. For an historical overview see the "Battle of RBR.pdf" file found in the main game folder. Player Notes: 1. The weather was poor for operations. Heavy rain will fall during the afternoon. Light rain will fall before and after that period of time in the battle. There was a heavy fog that limited visibility during the morning. This is partly why the French blundered into a much larger Austrian army. 2. Charles was very familiar with the battlefield, having fought in this area in 1796, yet seem hesitant to press the French to the extent needed to win the decisive battle that he sought. As a result the Left Wing will not release until 11am and the Reserve will not release until 1pm.
