Scenario Briefing: The Battle of Holstein (What if)
On 20 March 1700, shortly after the news of Saxony's attack on Livonia, Denmark attacked Schleswig and Holstein. Denmark had deployed approximately 20,000 men against Holstein and the Danish advance overwhelmed any resistance and defenses. The Swedish and Holstein troops withdrew to Tönningen and were quickly besieged by the Danes - the siege was lifted in May by Swedish troops.
The Danish invasion provoked the deployment of a coalition force consisting of Sweden, United Provinces, Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp, Luneberg-Celle and Hanover-Calenburg to the Holstein area to put pressure on the Danes to withdraw and bring a swift end to the conflict without changing the balance of power in the Baltic region. Tensions were rising in Europe and the European powers didn't want conflict in the Baltic area, plus many wanted the Danes and Swedes as potential allies.
This is a "what if" scenario as the two sides never actually engaged each other as the Danes were knocked out of the war after the battle of Humlebaek and were forced to sign the treaty of Traventahl. This scenario assumes the Danes are delaying negotiations to allow their main army to be reinforced. Frustrated by the political machinations of the Danes and their own allies perceived dithering, the Swedish and Holstein forces launched a surprise attack.

tight fight. Would likely have been a draw of I had realized we had NME off.
Swedes face a daunting task to attack an entrenched position without a quantity or quality advantage
The Northern Alliance has an exceptionally strong defensive position and troops of roughly equal quality to Sweden's. It's a tough nut for the Kingdom to crack.
