Scenario Briefing: The Battle of Pultusk (Historical)
The Saxon army had been decimated at the Battle of Kliszów the previous year, but managed to escape with considerable numbers. The Saxon leader, King August II, moved the remnants of his army to the north-west and filled out the ranks during the fall of 1702 and winter of 1703. He had a strong detachment at Thorn in southern West-Prussia under Field Marshall von Steinau's command. Steinau left in February with eight horse regiments to take up a position at the town of Pultusk. When the Swedish General Rehnskiöld received reports of Steinau's whereabouts, he immediately informed King Charles XII, who without delay joined him. The King was very eager to eliminate the Saxon forces and he saw a chance to deal a severe blow to the Saxon cavalry.
The Saxon army was arranged in two lines, west of the town on a ridge with an open field in front of them. At dawn, the Swedes were approaching from the south with Buchwald's Dragoons in the lead. The Saxon commander had no idea of the actual strength of the Swedes and initially only expected a smaller battle. When he saw the Swedish cavalry approaching, he assumed that the infantry was also present. He immediately had his troops withdraw to Pultusk.

Pure cav fight. Northern Alliance player needs to be weary of Swedish superiority and use the terrain to hold objectives.
