Scenario Briefing: Defending Trondheim (What if)
The Swedish Army has reached Trondheim after crossing the mountains from Jamtland. They have delayed their arrival until the ground and water has frozen to allow ease of movement over the River Nidelva. This delay has allowed the Norwegians to receive reinforcements, although conditions have been hard for the besieged town.
The Norwegians have made the decision to face the Swedish army outside of Trondheim before the Swedes can recover from the march with aim of defeating them or weakening the Swedes so that they would be unable to storm Trondheim. It is a risky strategy as a Norwegian defeat could seriously weaken the defenses of Trondheim.
