October 14, 1758 In the Fall 1759 campaign, Frederick and Daun were maneuvering in Saxony, each attempting to gain the advantage. On October 10, Frederick positioned his troops near Hochkirch, guarding the road from Bautzen as he awaited supplies. While Frederick was in a strong position, Daun saw the opportunity to flank the Prussian forces. After several days of preparation and false starts, Daun launched one of the most unique attacks of the war, descending on Frederick's position in multiple, independent columns.
