Scenario Briefing: Boot Camp 2: Column or Block? - The aim of the scenario is to secure a key crossroads and give the player a chance to familiarize themselves with movement of troops in column of march and block formations. The Anti-Imperialist Protestant infantry start out moving along a road in march column. They can move much faster in this formation - and have only a limited time to reach their objective - but they may need to switch into the much slower block formation if threatened by enemy cavalry. The defending Imperialist Catholic League forces are outnumbered, but have a mixture of different troop types to try to slow down the enemy foot and try to prevent them from capturing the objective before the scenario ends.
Recommended Rules: Default
Note: It could be useful to play this scenario twice over, first as the anti-Imperialist side and then as the Imperialists. The first playthrough would help learn basic infantry tactics, in particular when best to use column formation for rapid movement and when it's better, if not essential, to go into the much slower moving block formation. The second playthrough should help understand how to use cavalry, light infantry and guns effectively against large infantry units.
Further notes on this scenario can be found at the bottom of the Getting Started manual.
