Scenario Briefing: Bamberg Assault : Tilly routs Horn - Despite the Swedish King Gustavus having established a temporary winter truce with Bavaria, his subordinate general, Horn, effectively ignored the ceasefire by launching an unauthorized offensive in Franconia, seizing Bamberg on 11 February. Meanwhile, Tilly had raised an army of nearly 35,000 men for the defense of Bavaria and hastened to attack Horn before he could fortify Bamberg or recall his detachments. Horn unwisely placed the green Solms infantry and cavalry to defend the unfinished defensive works on the northeast bank of the Main River, while holding his precious veterans in reserve across the river. Horn had clearly planned to retreat from Bamberg rather than attempt a serious defense, since he ordered his heavy guns and baggage to the west bank. The raw Solms troops would promptly rout, although the more experienced Thurn and Wildenstein regiments made a successful counter-attack to secure the bridge. However, Tilly then brought up his guns to bombard the defenders and Horn decided to retreat from Bamberg.

Note: This scenario is designed for an Imperialist player against a Swedish (Anti-Imperialist) A/I.
