Date:27 April 1632 - Size: Small / Medium - Location: Regensburg
Scenario Briefing: Maximilian I of Bavaria had been negotiating to establish a Bavarian garrison in the Imperial city of Regensburg since early 1631 to protect it from the Swedish army. These negotiations resulted in an agreement on 31st October 1631 for a garrison of 600 Bavarian and 600 Protestant militia selected by the city - many of the citizens were in fact Protestants. A further 300 Catholic militia were provided with lodgings by the Catholic clergy. On 27 April 1632, the Catholic garrison open St Peter's gate to retreating Bavarian troops after the battle of Rain / Lech River and these secured the city. Meanwhile, a Swedish force under Horn was in pursuit and determined to gain control of Regensburg for Sweden.
Recommended Rules: Default
Note: Best played as the Catholic League (Imperialist) side against an Anti-Imperialist A/I or else Head-to-Head.
Note: While, historically, Horn's force arrived too late to prevent Regensburg falling into Bavarian hands, this scenario has his troops arriving more promptly, otherwise there wouldn't be much of a fight!
